Classificone 2012

Stavo per dimenticarmene. Niente classifica, nulla di grave in effetti, ma l’influenza che da sempre mi coglie quando riesco a mettere insieme almeno dieci giorni di ferie mi ha quasi imposto di tracciare il solito consuntivo di fine anno e allora, beh, eccoci qua. Ogni volta mi ritrovo faccia a faccia con la considerazione che, no, non è stata proprio un’annata esaltante. Non credo serva neppure a molto ripetersi, che nella musica non si inventi più nulla di epocale (a parte forse in generi che mi risultano indigesti) direi che è un dato di fatto. Prendendo allora come spunto per un confronto solo gli ultimi anni (ché spingersi molto più in là nel tempo offre il fianco a paragoni impietosi ed ingenerosi), tocca riconoscere che il 2012 non ha nemmeno sfoderato quel paio di dischetti da 9 che in passato non erano mancati. A compensare questo ulteriore scivolamento verso il basso, ho trovato tuttavia una qualità media più che accettabile. Nessun vero picco, ma una trentina buona di album che non varrebbero meno di un 8 (e le altre settanta posizioni non scendono comunque al di sotto del 7). Non male quindi.

Infine una considerazione sulle posizioni “calde” di quest’anno. Alla fine ho scelto l’esordio dei londinesi TOY. Genere dark-coldwave (à la Horrors, per intenderci). Non sarebbe il mio pane e non sarebbero i miei suoni, ma il condizionale è d’obbligo. Già l’anno scorso avevo portato in classifica un disco simile, l’esordio degli S.C.U.M., ma ammetto che questa volta l’infatuazione è stata forte. Una raccolta di canzoni con i fiocchi, spleen giusto, bella carica. Li ho anche visti dal vivo: bravi, ma meno che in studio (chitarre notevoli, voce deludente). Per la piazza d’onore premio il garage pop di King Tuff, un album eponimo di cui ho appena scritto il pezzo conclusivo dell’anno per Monthlymusic. Sul gradino basso del podio l’album del ritorno di una Fiona Apple in bello spolvero, anche se evidentemente mai tormentata come negli ultimi tempi (arrestata in Texas per qualche grammo di hashish quest’estate, ha recentemente annullato il suo tour nordamericano per stare accanto alla sua cagna malata). A scendere, un Lee Ranaldo eccellente, capace di non far rimpiangere i Sonic Youth (non è dato sapere se esistano ancora), il congedo di un’ottima compagine garage rock, i Bare Wires (il cui leader Matthew Melton sta per rilanciarsi con il nuovo progetto Warm Soda), il sorprendente esordio di una ragazzina inglese di grande talento (Beth Jeans Houghton), il convincente ritorno dei losangelini Earlimart e di un Mark Lanegan che ha saputo fondere davvero meravigliosamente rock ed elettronica.
